STOCKTON-ON-TEES Borough Council is calling for people interested in adopting a child to come along to an event to find out more.
The Council is holding the information session for prospective adopters on Thursday 23 June at St Cuthbert’s Church, Market Place, Darlington from 6pm-8pm. Residents unable to attend but interested in finding out more can also get in touch for an information pack from the Council’s Child Placement Team.
Adopters come from all walks of life and all kinds of people may have the commitment, skills and experience to offer a child a positive experience of a family life.
Councillor Ann McCoy, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “We need adoptive parents from all background and with all sorts of experience to come forward to give our looked after children a much needed home.
“Some people rule themselves out before making an enquiry because they think they may not be eligible. We urge interested people, whatever their circumstances, to come along to the information session or have an informal chat with a member of the Council’s Child Placement Team. If you think you have the right skills to help improve the life of a child or young person in the Stockton Borough then please get in touch.”
Those who go forward with the process of adopting a child will get professional support and guidance, comprehensive training as well as access to local support groups.
