Topping out Celebration for Isos Housing’s New Extra Care Scheme in Alnwick

Weavers Court Topping Out pic 2An exciting new Extra Care housing scheme in Alnwick reached another new milestone this week after the final roof tile was put in place yesterday (Monday, September 7).

Representatives from the scheme’s developer Isos Housing and construction partner, Galliford Try Partnership’s North gathered at a ‘topping out’ celebration at the Weavers’ Court development on the south side of the town.

The £5m state-of-the-art Extra Care development is expected to be completed in Spring 2016 and will include 58 one and two-bedroom apartments, which will be available to buy through shared ownership or to rent from Isos Housing.

The scheme will boast a range of shared facilities for residents to enjoy including a convenience shop, communal lounge, restaurant, coffee shop and hair salon.

Extra Care schemes like Weavers’ Court are designed to promote independence in older and vulnerable people, while enabling those with chronic and other health conditions to live in the community, preventing admissions to residential care.

Each of the spacious, modern, one and two bedroom apartments will include a large lounge/diner, kitchen and storage space as well as a private terrace or balcony. A scheme manager, employed by Isos Housing, will oversee the scheme’s day-to-day running, with care provision available on site if needed.

Michael Farr, Executive Director of Development and Property at Isos Housing, said: “This is another key milestone in the development of this scheme, which will bring many benefits to residents living here and also the wider community.

“Weavers’ Court will enable residents, particularly those with care needs, to have choices and lead happy, independent lifestyles.  The development is really taking shape and we have had a lot of interest from local people who have already reserved their dream homes off plan.”

Foster Innes, Operations Director with Galliford Try Partnerships North, added:  “Improving the quality and choice of homes for older people throughout the North East is forming an increasing proportion of our work and we are delighted to be working with Isos to deliver this fantastic facility for the communities of Alnwick and beyond.”

A sales office which will include floor plans, kitchen and bathroom samples and sales literature is expected to be opening on site soon and a show flat should be completed around Christmas time.

Under shared ownership, a share in a one or two-bedroom apartment at Weavers’ Court can be purchased on a part buy, part rent basis.  Purchasers can buy up to a 75% share in the property and must be aged 55 or over and have a housing or recognised care need.

Prices range from £93,750 for a maximum 75% share in a one-bedroom apartment or £103,125 for the same share of a two-bedroom apartment.  Additional service charges will apply.
