Final demolitions at West End GardensA STOCKTON Town Centre regeneration scheme has taken another step forward this week after the final three properties were demolished.

The three remaining Victorian houses on Buchanan Street were demolished as part of preparations to build 117 much needed, high quality homes in the heart of Stockton.

Once complete the new development, West End Gardens, will feature a mix of two bedroom apartments and bungalows alongside two and three bedroom houses.  They will be available to local people on a wide variety of options to best suit the customer’s budget.

Stockton Council is working in partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency and Tees Valley Housing, part of the Thirteen Group, to deliver the new homes on the Town Centre site which is bounded by Dovecot Street, Hartington Road, St Bernard’s Road and Worthing Street.

Construction and development specialist Southdale Ltd, which was appointed by Tees Valley Housing to build the properties, is already on site with several homes already underway.

Councillor Steve Nelson, Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Safety, said: “We are pleased the regeneration of this site is progressing well and this redevelopment will complement the ongoing regeneration of the nearby Town Centre.  Now the demolitions are complete we can press ahead, working with our partners on the next phase of the development, to provide residents with a wide range of good quality housing for sale and rent in this convenient location.”

Martin Hawthorne, Director of Development and Regeneration at Thirteen, the parent company of Tees Valley Housing, said: “We are creating new homes in the heart of the town; a great place to live at really affordable prices. We know that mortgages and deposits are really tight at the moment so our offer will bring flexible choices to working families, enabling them to have a fabulous new home.”
