Two More Units Snapped up at Catkin Way Industrial Estate

At Catkin Way Industrial Estate, a newly refurbished former glass manufacturing facility in Bishop Auckland, has been sold to Swift Timber Homes and a second let to Midland Steel Reinforcement Supplies.

Originally purchased in 2014 by Prospect Estates Ltd, the 7.7 acre site on Greenfield Industrial Estate, which was formerly the Saint Gobain Glass Factory, has undergone a major refurbishment.

Swift Timber Homes have bought Unit 2 (approximately 45,000 ft²). The company has been supplying quality affordable timber frame housing for over 17 years throughout the UK to a range of national, regional and local builders.

Unit 3 (38,000 ft²) has been let to Midland Steel . The market leading steel fabricating company already has sites in London, Mountmellick in Ireland and Motherwell. They offer an extensive range of reinforcing steel products and services to the UK construction sector in a diverse range of sectors. The new base will be home to 18 members of staff.

Daniel Hall of Midland Steel, commented: “We are excited about our relocation to Bishop Auckland with the opportunities to increase and develop our products supplied to the construction industry.  We are looking forward to recruiting staff and working with companies in the local area.”

The arrival of Swift Timber Homes and Midland Steel leaves just one unit remaining on the complex of 14,000 sq ft, which is available “for sale or to let”.

The refurbishment work on the former glass factory, included selective demolition of approximately 50,000 ft² of existing space to create a large external yard, major sub-division works, a re-clad of the existing elevations and the provision of a number of new roller shutter loading doors.
