The latest tour to be announced by North Tyneside entertainment tourism business Tyne Idols is sure to be popular as it will be their “last.”
Fans of the iconic double decker yellow bus need not fear however as this tour whilst being their last, is in name only. The tour incorporates “The Last Ship” stage play on its last night and in keeping with the Sting theme it will start with a tour entitled “In the Footsteps of Sting”
The ‘In the Footsteps of Sting’ Tour was originally put together for Sting’s International Fan Club when he was in the North-East previewing music from his Broadway musical play, The Last Ship at The Sage in 2015.
The tour is inspired by ‘The Last Ship’ and visits his home town of Wallsend once dominated by the Swan Hunter shipyard, it also takes in places where he played with his pre-Police band, Last Exit and there’s even a chance to meet people who featured in Sting’s life. As the bus takes its passengers through Newcastle and Tyneside, commentary will be supplied by ex-Lindisfarne founder member Ray Laidlaw accompanied by classic music by Last Exit, The Police and Sting’s solo career.
Following the tour, it’s down to Northern Stage for The Last Ship on the production’s last night. ‘The Last Ship’ is Sting’s personal, political and passionate musical featuring his original score. The cast includes Joe McGann, Richard Fleeshman and Frances McNamee as well as Tyne Idols favourites Charlie Hardwick and Joe Caffery.
Ray Laidlaw is looking forward to the tour and show which takes place on Saturday April 7th.
