ARC Stockton has appointed actor and theatre maker Umar Ahmed as their new Artistic Associate.
Umar will be working to increase engagement with the local Indian and Pakistani communities as well as working with management to increase cultural diversity in ARC’s programmes.
Originally from Pakistan, Umar moved to Glasgow as a child and has recently relocated to Stockton to take up a new and exciting role at ARC.
Umar will spend time making his own work as well as engaging with the local Asian community in the hope of increasing participation and educating the community about the wide scope of events and opportunities that are available at the arts centre.
He will also lend his expertise to the programming team to increase the cultural diversity of ARC’s artistic programmes.
Umar said: “I am really excited to be here in Stockton and to be able to work closely with the team to see how we can fuse different cultural elements into ARC’s programmes. I have already had some brilliant conversations with the local community too.”
In addition to his new role, Umar will also be performing as Geppetto in ARC’s Christmas family show, Pinocchio. To see Umar in action, tickets for the show can be booked by calling ARC’s Box Office on 01642 525199.
