North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

They say that charity begins at home but for one Newton Aycliffe family, charity is 30 miles away in Newcastle as they take to the stage to raise much needed funds for others despite the fact that one member of the family suffers from a rare tissue disorder.

The 2CC show on 3rd September at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House in Newcastle is a fundraising variety show that that has been running for a number of years and this year funds are being raised for Northumberland Masonic Charities Association and the Tyne Theatre and Opera House Preservation Trust.

Stage and Events Coordinator Peter Towler has persuaded his three daughters Kieva 11, Melody 10 and Eve 7 to take part in the show. All three girls used to dance and two of them currently enjoy Gymnastics in Newton Aycliffe.

Proud dad Peter said,” They all have a love of being on the stage, particular here in a venue that celebrates its 150th birthday this year. One of the main reasons that they are taking part is the fact that they get to make fun of their dad in front of an audience. “

It’s an opportunity that the girls they have grasped with both hands and smiling faces despite the fact that Melody suffers from a condition called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome

Ehlers–Danlos syndrome (EDS) is a group of genetic connective tissue disorders with symptoms that may include loose joints, stretchy skin, and abnormal scar formation. Complications may include joint dislocationsscoliosischronic pain, or early osteoarthritis.

The condition affects about 1 in 5,000 people globally but brave Melody isn’t letting it stop her big day on stage.

“I love being on stage and what I’m doing shouldn’t affect me too much, I’m really looking forward to seeing dad being laughed at in his part of the show and helping to raise money for others less fortunate than ourselves.”

As well as the Towler family making an appearance, the show includes Bobby Thompson tribute Pete Peverley, The Moonstones, Tom Jobes, The Baldy Holly Band and more.

Everyone taking part both onstage and behind the scenes, including the bar staff have given up their time for free to help the cause.
