Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Romantics are being invited to swap dinner for two for an evening of music and musings on love to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Dramatic coloratura soprano Penelope Randall-Davis is performing at Barnard Castle School on February 14 in a vocal recital entitled Schumann and Love.

The celebration of love, accompanied by director of music at Barnard Castle School Simon Dearsley, will include the song-cycle Dichterliebe and songs written by Schumann’s wife Clara Wieck.

The romance will continue with readings by Jill Cole and Philippa Dearsley of correspondence between Schumann and Wieck.

Mr Dearsley said: “Penny is an amazing singer and it’s wonderful that we have a celebrity performer of her calibre living on our doorstep.

“It’s a lovely programme of music and readings that cannot help but captivate the audience with the spirit of romance.”

Tickets, available from the school office, cost £15 to include a Valentine’s supper in the interval.
