A primary school in Newcastle has replenished its library after receiving a donation from a local housebuilder.
Bellway North East gave £250 to Walbottle Village Primary School so it could purchase new books to add to its collection.
The school, which teaches children from nursery age to Year 6, is less than a mile from where Bellway is building homes at The View at Abbey Heights in Lower Callerton.
Bellway’s donation came after the company was approached by the school’s parent-teacher association (PTA), which raises money to help enhance the facilities at the school.
Fiona Sample, Assistant Headteacher of Walbottle Village Primary School, said, “We were delighted to receive this donation and very much appreciate the generosity of local businesses, especially Bellway. We are extremely thankful to them and to our wonderful PTA for approaching them. We are now looking forward to buying non-fiction texts for our library that will support our children in their learning.”
Chris Lawson, Sales Manager at Bellway North East, said: “We see giving back to the local community as an important aspect of our role as a housebuilder, and this donation to Walbottle Village Primary School is very much in keeping with that ethos.
“We appreciate that the period immediately after Christmas is a particularly difficult one for groups trying to fundraise, so when the PTA reached out to us we were more than happy to help.
“It’s great to know that our contribution has helped provide valuable reading materials which will benefit children at the school for many years to come. We hope the pupils enjoy reading the new books in their library.”
Located off North Walbottle Road, The View at Abbey Heights is a collection of 98 homes which forms the second phase of Bellway’s Abbey Heights development in Lower Callerton. Bellway is building a total of 278 homes on the site, including two-bedroom apartments.
