Vitamin Boost for Mums and Kids on The Riverside Run

FREE vitamins put a spring in the step of a special group pounding the streets at this year’s Ali Brownlee Riverside Run.

The record-breaking field for the popular 5k included 40 runners sponsored by Healthy Start vitamins, promoted by Middlesbrough Council and Healthy Living Pharmacies supported by Tees LPC.

Healthy Start vitamins are available free of charge to all pregnant women, new mums and children aged from six months to five years.

The vitamins (available in tablet form for adults and drop form for children) contain essential nutrients such as Vitamin A, Vitamin D and Folic Acid, which support the body in numerous ways such as building strong bones and teeth, maintaining healthy body tissue and assisting with vision in dim light.

The free Healthy Start vitamins are available from most pharmacies in Middlesbrough.

Those on certain benefits or who are under 18 and pregnant can also apply to receive vouchers for free milk, fruit and vegetables.

Public Health Practitioner Laura Kemp said: “If you want to stay fit and healthy for events like the Riverside Run, there’s no substitute for a balanced diet, good sleep and plenty of exercise.

“But mums to be, new mums and the very young can always use a little extra help, and that’s where Health Start vitamins can make a real difference.”
