0800 Repair Gas is warning of the dangers of faulty heating systems as the cold snap begins to take hold in the North East.

While the festive period was, for the large part, mild, temperatures have started to drop, with snow falling in most areas and further adverse conditions are expected.

Phil Pallister, managing director of service company 0800 Repair Gas, which operates throughout the entire North East, is advising people to be extra vigilant with their heating appliances to avoid long-term damage and to take the proper precautions throughout the cold snap.

According to research, 40 people are killed and 260 more fall ill as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning related incidents.

In addition, the Houghton le Spring-headquartered firm is advising that boiler and gas fires should be regularly serviced by Gas Safe engineers to ensure they are safe.

Phil said: “With temperatures dropping to below freezing levels in most areas, it is important that people are appropriately prepared for the adverse weather. Therefore, it is essential that your heating appliances are in a good, working condition and are regularly serviced to prevent any dramas, as well as limit any health and safety issues with a faulty boiler or gas appliance.

“Carbon monoxide poisoning really is the ‘silent killer’ and should not be taken lightly, so it is wise to have routine service and maintenance checks.”

Phil added: “Installers and gas engineers will be in high demand over this period, as the winter months are typically the busiest time of year, so it is vital that homeowners are vigilant about their systems as, should the weather impact on your appliance, you won’t go without heating when it is needed most.”

0800 Repair Gas’ team of central heating engineers and boiler repair specialists cover the entire region, from across its North East offices.
