THE East Cleveland Klondike Grand Prix cycle race has received ringing endorsements from two of the region’s highest profile people.
Welcome to Yorkshire Chief Executive Sir Gary Verity has personally welcomed the return of the fast-paced professional cycling race, which forms part of British Cycling’s Spring Cup.
Sir Gary said: “The East Cleveland Klondike Grand Prix is one of the best organised and best supported events on the Yorkshire cycling calendar. The updated route for 2018 looks really exciting and I’m sure it’ll challenge the riders whilst also showcasing one of the most picturesque parts of our great county.”
But that’s not all.
The race will also play host to a visit by The Archbishop of York, John Sentamu, who will be present to see the riders set off on their 90+ mile challenge.
Councillor Mary Lanigan, Chair of event organisers the East Cleveland Villages Big Local, said: “We’ve all worked so hard since the first East Cleveland Klondike Grand Prix last year and we’re sure this year’s race will be even bigger and better than before.
“We’ve got a great day of cycling action lined up and I can’t wait to see all the people out there cheering the riders on their way.”
The East Cleveland Klondike Grand Prix begins at 12 noon on Sunday 29 April on Guisborough’s Westgate.
Spectators are advised to get there early to guarantee the best views of the teams of professional cyclists taking on the challenge that leads them over hills and through villages all over the borough.
