North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

WHATSAPP-ENING AT NEWCASTLE HOTELS?

TWO of Tyneside’s most popular hotels are taking room service to a whole new level with the help of a digital concierge.

Newcastle’s Grey Street Hotel and the New Northumbria Hotel, Jesmond, have become the first hotels in the city to introduce a special Whatsapp service for residents.

The New Northumbria Hotel’s Mexican-inspired El Paso restaurant is one of Jesmond’s most popular eateries, while Grey Street Hotel is also home to Those Who Know – a spectacular Alice in Wonderland-themed pop-up.

And the aim of the Whatsapp service is to make it easier than ever to order room service or book a table.

Once guests have checked in to the hotels – which are both owned by Newcastle-based leisure and hospitality giant, Malhotra Group plc – they will receive a number via which they can text their orders directly to Reception.

And the scheme’s instigator, group business development manager, Fabian Pritchard, believes it will bring an added level of convenience to corporate and leisure guests alike.

“Instant messaging is such a familiar means of communication now that this is a logical service to offer,” he said.

“It cuts down the potential for error as the order is in written down and it will speed up the process.

“It also means that residents can place their order from wherever they happen to be.

“So, if they are out for the day, they can use the Whatsapp service to either book a   table in the restaurant for their return or have a meal and drinks delivered to their room when they return.”
