A POPULAR North East restaurant has unveiled its new winter menus, offering some of the best British heritage dishes in the region.

Oldfields Eating House at Claypath, Durham is currently serving up a selection of Britain’s favourite meals made with ingredients from farms, markets and suppliers in the area.

And hungry guests have a treat in store – with a choice of three different menus available.

The new lunch menu offers three courses of “Great British Food” including dishes such as British mussels in cider and tarragon, whisky and orange cured salmon, slow-braised shin beef with sweet potato mash and Glamorgan sausages with cherry tomatoes and a fried egg.

The lunch menu is available from 12pm until 7pm Monday – Friday, and until 6pm on a Saturday, and offers two courses for £13 or three courses for £15.

From 6pm in the evenings the restaurant will be running its winter supper menu, offering everything from sandwiches to grills.

The menu, which will run throughout  February, offers dishes such as Ploughmans on toast with Mordon blue cheese, ham hock fritters with  smoked cheese, crisp & apple chutney and cottage pie with lentils and mushrooms with a sweet potato topping and honey-glazed carrots.

Both the lunch menu and the winter supper menu include a range of desserts, with traditional favourites including Eccles cake with ginger custard and sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and ice cream.

On Sundays the venue will be running its Sunday roast menu with all the trimmings. Guests will be able to choose from Shorthorn topside of beef, Durham rare-breed belly pork and shoulder of lamb – with a side order of live jazz played.

Bill Oldfield, owner of Oldfields Eating House and Oldfield Events said, “these new menus really show what our restaurant is all about good, traditional, British food.

“All the dishes use quality ingredients from local suppliers and farms, which really helps add to the flavour. A lot of hard work went into creating these menus to make sure that we can cater for as many different tastes as possible, so there’s definitely something for everyone at Oldfields this winter.”

Oldfields Eating House also offer a home delivery service for some of the venue’s favourite dishes.
