Care Protect has expanded its presence in Australia following the announcement by South Australian Premier Steven Marshall of a 12-month pilot of the UK-based company’s cutting-edge surveillance and monitoring systems in five state owned elderly care facilities.
Noleen Hausler, who has personal family experience of the negative side of aged care, has joined the Australian operation as Business Development Manager Sth Australia.
A health professional with 40 years’ experience and a consumer advocate in the residential aged care sector, Noleen has campaigned for reform at both state and federal government levels for the rights of residents or their legal advocate to install ethical surveillance cameras in their private bedrooms in aged care.
Noleen has spoken at many forums, including World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2017 and Aged Care Management Australia 2019. In 2015 her father’s story made national headlines when a covert safety camera was installed in his bedroom. The camera evidence resulted in an aged care worker being charged, convicted and incarcerated for nine counts of aggravated criminal assault.
Noleen Hausler said: “When I first saw the state-of-the-art Care Protect system it was a game-changing moment, which gave me hope for a positive future after years of bureaucracy, legislative speak and regulatory gymnastics void of committed reform.
“My father’s story initiated the South Australia Senate Inquiry into Aged Care in 2016 and being approached and appointed by Care Protect has given me a sense of fulfilment following years of advocating for change.
“Care Protect provides a new chapter unseen before in Australia providing ethical safeguarding technology, which gives residents a ‘visual voice’ and restores their Human Charter of Rights as respected vulnerable people. I am delighted to be involved in this revolution in aged care.”
The Australian operation is headed up by former City broker Scott Sterling. Belfast-born Scott, who graduated from Kingston University with a Business Management degree, works from a Sydney base with care providers across the country to introduce the proven benefits of the unique Care Protect system.
Care Protect’s monitoring system employs the latest sound and motion sensitive technology which, when activated by a ‘resident event’, triggers recording which, within seconds alerts the 24/7 professional monitor. This reduces risk because assistance can be provided to a resident within seconds of the event having occurred and encourages staff behaviour conducive to a low risk environment.
As in the UK, independent, experienced health and social care professionals will monitor the recordings.
