Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Yarm School students hitting the road to Oxbridge

Six pupils at Yarm School have received offers to study at Oxford and Cambridge Universities. They will be reading a wide variety of subjects at the two prestigious universities: Architecture, Bio-chemistry, Classics, German, History, and Chemistry.

Sarah Portsmouth and Alex Walker have secured offers from Cambridge and Thomas Barber, Susie Dunn, Hazel Wake and Thomas Wasson have been offered places at Oxford.

Yarm School, recently named by The Sunday Times as the Independent School of the Year in the North East, regularly sees its pupils delivering a high performance at A Level, and many alumni go on to study at top tier universities.

David Dunn, Headmaster at Yarm School, said: “We’re delighted for our six pupils; they have dedicated so much time and effort to their studies and extra-curricular activities, the offers they have earned for Oxford and Cambridge are fully deserved. It also shows the excellence of our teaching across the board.

“Every year the competition increases for places at the top universities and, along with fantastic GCSE and A Level grades, students must also complete an aptitude test and impress in a rigorous interview. At Yarm School we endeavour to provide our young people with not only academic excellence but also life skills that will be invaluable at university and in their chosen careers.

“Having so many pupils receive offers from Oxford or Cambridge makes me really proud. They have worked extremely hard with their teachers. It is great, once again, to have so many successes out of a year group of just over 100. I would like to wish all students the best of luck with their studies and future careers”.
