Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Young carol singers visit new Sowerby extra care facility

Youngsters from Sowerby Community Primary School brought a Christmassy feel to an Open Day, which highlighted a fantastic new extra care scheme in Sowerby.

The open day gave people the chance to find out about the high quality accommodation and levels of care and support the new extra care housing scheme at Herriot Gardens, Sowerby offers.

Orchid House is a development of 64 one and two bedroom apartments for rent, shared ownership or sale in a supportive community that is staffed 24 hours a day. There are also 26 two-bedroom bungalows surrounding Orchid House on Acacia Drive.

Orchid House is set across three floors and includes a communal area on each floor and an attractive garden room for residents to enjoy. Opening onto the main piazza, the extra care apartments and surrounding bungalows will be part of a new community hub with retail units and a bistro.

All the properties have been designed to provide high quality accommodation for those requiring additional levels of care and support and easy access to enable them to maintain a high level of independence.

Thirteen Group has worked in partnership with North Yorkshire County Council, Hambleton District Council and construction company Galliford Try Partnerships North, supported by funding from the Homes and Communities Agency. Galliford Try’s housebuilding division, Linden Homes, are currently marketing the properties for sale while the community facilities and homes for rent is operated by Thirteen Group.

Martin Hawthorne, Group Director of Development and Regeneration at Thirteen Group, said: “We were delighted to welcome the children to Herriot Gardens. It is important that residents are part of a supportive local community and it was a thoroughly enjoyable start to the Christmas season.

“It was great to showcase the facilities that are on offer to residents as well as highlight the benefits of this bespoke extra care scheme and how it will meet the needs of residents who will benefit from its specialist features.”

A further Open Day is being held to showcase the facilities at Herriott Gardens on 12th January between 10am and 3pm. For more details about the event, prospective tenants can call Diane Broadrick on 0300 111 1000
