Residents aged between 11 and 18 can apply for up to £50 toward the cost of starting up their own business and receive a unique trading spot at a special Youth Market in March 2016.

The scheme is being run by the Council’s Business and Enterprise team as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week and forms part of a wider programme of activities to encourage enterprise among young people.

Councillor Bob Cook, Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, said: “From upcycling pre-loved clothes and sweet shops to photo booths and homemade crafts – the possibilities for our young people to start their own business in Stockton Borough are many.

“I am sure there will be plenty of innovative ideas coming in and our successful entrepreneurs will benefit from support from our Business and Enterprise team.”

To apply, youngsters must complete an application form outlining their business idea in brief and explain how they would use the funding.

Successful applicants will be invited to an event where they will receive further information on how the Make Your Money scheme will operate and get help and advice as they start out in the world of business.

The deadline for applications is noon on Friday (20 November).

Application forms are available in schools, libraries and community centres across Stockton Borough and can also be accessed at www.stockton.gov.uk/moneymakers
