YOUNG people across Stockton Borough are being encouraged to put forward the issues that matter most to them as part of a national youth consultation.
The UK’s largest consultation of young people, Make Your Mark, is held annually to get young people aged 11 to 18 to vote on the issues that matter to them the most. This year’s campaign launched on International Youth Day, 12 August.
The 10 issues that receive the most votes will be chosen by the UK Youth Parliament to debate in the House of Commons later this year.
Residents aged 11 to 18 can come along to Stockton’s town centre market between 10am – 4pm on Saturday 22 August where members of Stockton’s Youth Assembly will be on hand to collect votes and offer more information about the campaign.
Councillor Bob Cook, Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, said: “The Make Your Mark campaign is a great way of encouraging young people to get involved in national decision making and speak up about issues important to them.
“As future voters, the campaign also helps them to learn about democracy and realise the importance of making their voice heard.”
