First Team Manager of Blyth Town FC First Team Mick Connor is ‘delighted’ to be welcoming back centre forward Zak Atkinson this month following his time at Blyth Spartans and Division 1 team Bishop Auckland.

Atkinson, who was one of the original members of the First Team, was the top scorer last season in the Northern Alliance League scoring 26 goals.

Mick Connor said: “I am chuffed to have Zak back in the squad. He has huge potential who I see playing at a higher level in the future – hopefully with Blyth Town FC First Team!

“His attitude to working hard and commitment to being the best he can be is admirable – that along with his technical and goal scoring ability means he is a very welcome addition to the team – we have high hopes for him. He has already scored two goals for us in as many games.”

Atkinson believes he will bring 100% commitment to the squad in helping reach the clubs ambition of promotion.

He said: “It is great to be back to the Blyth Town FC First Team – the ambition and drive of the team and the comradery with the lads is what gives this team the drive and
determination to go all the way and if I can play a part of this exciting journey then I am
happy.

“The squad are a talented bunch and are being steered in the right direction by all of the management and coaches and it is exciting times for the team.”

Top goal scorer for the team this season centre forward Gary Day has returned to light training following an operation with a view to being fit to play over the next few weeks, captain John Iveson has returned to full training after being out with a knee injury and Josh Miller is at full training and looking fit to return to the squad.

Blyth Town FC First Team are playing the rescheduled game at home against Team Northumbria

on Wednesday evening with a kick off at 7.30pm. The match was abandoned earlier this month (4th January) in the 82nd minute due to flood light failure where the score was 1-1.
The First Team are also playing Billingham Town on Saturday 28th January with a kick off time of 3pm.
