Stagecoach North East is once again showing its support for one of the country’s busiest road races by providing race runners and spectators with additional transport to help keep them on the move.

During this year’s Great North Run on 11 th September, the local bus operator is helping participants, their supporters and the general public with their travelling needs by offering extra express bus services between the finish line, South Shields Ferry and Metro, and Newcastle City Centre.

Due to the popularity of the much loved event and the sheer amount of crowds the Great North Run attracts to help provide moral support for over 57,000 runners, Stagecoach is doing its best to ensure that people can get to the start and finish in time.

With its frequent express 552 and *553 Services, Stagecoach North East provides a cheap and efficient way for people to travel throughout the day and enjoy the festivities.

Service 552 provides a handy link from near the finish line at Bents Park Road to South Shields Metro and across to South Shields Ferry Landing for just £1.30 per single journey. Service 553 provides the main direct express link to Newcastle City Centre, with journeys taking only 30 minutes for just £3.50 per single journey. Both services run very frequently on the day, starting around 7am until 5pm or alternatively, customers can travel on Stagecoach buses throughout Tyne and Wear with the 1-day £3.95 dayrider.

Colin Newbury, Operations Director, Stagecoach North East, said: “As in previous years, due to road closures and lack of parking, traffic will be extremely busy with peaks throughout the day. Therefore we recognise that it is important to get people from start to finish as efficiently as possible.

“The Great North Run is such an integral part of the North East’s heritage and a real highlight in the region’s calendar. As a dedicated local operator we want to help reduce travel pressures and hopefully make it a lot easier for people knowing the buses will be running every few minutes. We wish the best of luck to everyone taking part, including our own Stagecoach competitors, and supporting the runners throughout the route and across the line.”
