Service Network members will be getting to grips with design and how businesses can use it to improve the way they work with their customers in a hands-on workshop that kicks off a new series of Network Inform events.

The interactive half-day Service Design workshop on Friday October 21 at RTC North in Sunderland will be hosted by RTC’s Terry McStea and Nick Devitt.

Nick has worked on innovation and design projects with companies including Johnson & Johnson, Reckitt Benckiser, Learn Direct, Keiro, North East Business and Innovation Centre, Newcastle Science City, Geovation (Ordnance Survey) and NCFE. He started Innovation Scout in 2008 as a consultancy concentrating on innovation leading to growth with public and private sector clients, including Newcastle Science City and Reckitt Benksiser.

Nick said: “It’s a hands-on workshop where we’ll try out some service design tools to  identify some potential opportunities to innovate.

“We’ll be looking at evolving services using design thinking, arguably one of the most powerful ways to design a value proposition because it involves your customers and it considers their context. “

The session will involve a couple of hours of interactive design that aims to provide attendees with ideas they can take back and put into practice in their own business.

Run in conjunction with Design Network North, the event marks the launch of the Service Network’s new Network Inform sessions, offering monthly business improvement and personal training opportunities.

Terry McStea from RTC North, which runs the Service Network to provide networking opportunities, advice and support on different aspects of doing business, said: “We’re looking forward to offering businesses new ideas via the Network Inform events.

“We’ll be running the sessions in addition to our monthly Network Leaders presentations, which bring in top business figures from around the region to share their stories and experiences with members.”

The next Network Inform event is Creative and Agile Thinking on November 29 at Muckle LLP, Newcastle, with Dave Cater of Eliesha Training.

The Service Design event takes place from 08:30-11:30am on October 21 at NTC North in Sunderland. Attendance is free for Service Network members. Find out more or register at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/service-network-service-design-tickets-27674672691
