HOLIDAY-MAKERS will be spoilt for choice for fun activities to enjoy at Redcar during the Bank Holiday weekend.

The fun starts with the Kick off the Summer event from Friday 26 May to Monday 29 May which will see live bands at Tuned In! on the seafront and gigantic sand sculptures at the nearby boating lake between 10am and 4pm each day.

The event, organised by the Friends of Redcar, will also involve fairground rounds on the High Street and other activities at the Beacon and on the seafront including Punch & Judy shows, face painting and balloon modelling.

Also located on the High Street will be a highly anticipated Continental Street Market, organised by RR Events, the market promises dozens of stalls of tasty food, quirky handmade crafts and unique gift ideas, running from Friday to Monday 10am to 6pm.

As well as the Continental Market, Redcar’s own market will still be running on Friday and a craft & collectables market will take place on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

However, the highlight of the weekend will be the return of a Redcar tradition – the Lemon Top relay! Ten races are taking place every 15 minutes, starting at 1pm, on Saturday. The events should be a hard-fought competition to see which team can get their hands on a free ice cream.

On Monday, visitors to the beach looking to take part in some friendly competition have the opportunity take part in beach crazy golf.

Mark Ladyman, Director for Economic Growth at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, said: “With Redcar and Cleveland finally getting a taste of warm weather, what could be better than coming down to the seaside over the Bank Holiday weekend and enjoy the events Redcar has to offer?

“Both Kick off the Summer and the Continental Street Market will be providing a wide range of family-friendly events and I would encourage as many people as possible to come down and enjoy the weekend.”
