Darlington Mowden Park have announced the re-signings of Callum Mackenzie and Shaun Mccartney. Both players have put pen to paper in deals keeping them at the club for the 2017/18 National one campaign. Director of Rugby Danny Brown was delighted to be keeping the pair: “We’re thrilled to be re-signing such an influential pair of players. Shaun has been electric since his return from Dubai and has been in great form of late. Callum has been a revelation coming off the bench this season and he’s had an impact in almost every game.”

Versatile back-row Mackenzie, who can also play on the wing, has played a big part in Mowden’s 16/17 season. Having made 23 appearances as both a forward and a back, the 27 year-old has established himself as a valuable member of Danny Brown’s squad, scoring 3 tries in the process. The former Newcastle Falcon was pleased to be extending his stay at the Northern Echo Arena: “It’s a pleasure to sign at Mowden for my 6th season. I’m really looking forward to starting pre-season and the challenge ahead of the 17/18 National One season. I hope we, as a team, can reach our potential.”

Winger Shaun Mccartney also extends his stay at Mowden Park, following an impressive run of form for the National One side. The 25 year-old has scored 3 tries in April, including one in Saturday’s defeat to Hull Ionians and a brace down at Esher. Having returned from his time in Dubai with Jebel Ali Dragons, Mccartney was glad to be staying in the North-East:

“I’m happy to be back at Mowden after spending the last couple of years in Dubai. I’ve been part of the club since I was 17 so it’s great to be still playing for the family. I’m excited for the new challenges of next season, not only representing Mowden as a player but also returning as the new Strength & Conditioning coach. I’m looking forward to working with the boys and aiming to improve in many areas, hopefully winning more games and improving our league standing.”

Fans can still see Mowden Park in action in their County Cup Final against West Hartlepool on Thursday 11th May at the Northern Echo Arena.
