In what is a bold move by both parties, north-east singer-songwriter, Marie Marx, has penned her first management deal, signing with local lad, Peter Mann.
Marie, who has only been on the local circuit the past few years, recently released her debut album, This Is The Thing, and is presently midway through touring to promote it, taking in a specialist number of micro-venues across the North-East and Yorkshire.
The link-up with Peter Mann is one of those stories you can only dream of, neither looking for anything, the coming together just happening following her recent appearance on his Nova Radio ‘Midweek Crossover show.
Already tasked with helping with her PR just two months ago the strengthening of the bond between the two has arrived at the right time, for both parties.
“I don’t think either of us were looking for anything to be honest, it just happened,” admits Peter.
“I came across Marie by chance a few months ago as she was preparing to head out on tour, one thing led to another, I produced some media and we kept in touch.
“Then, last week, I needed someone for my radio show and Marie (and husband Rob) agreed to come in. They played a couple of tracks live on air and I guess we just clicked.
“Even then though nothing was set in stone, not even discussed, it just happened over the ensuing days. We chatted, realised we both were looking for something and decided to give it a shot.
“For me, personally, it’s fantastic. Marie is a talented individual and musician. She knows what she wants and where she wants to be and we are working in harmony towards a specific goal.”
Originally from Marske-by-the-Sea, Marie has released a ten-track debut album consisting original tracks such as Just You and Me, Where Do You Go, and her own ‘Bond’ theme, When Darkness Falls, and with dozens more in the locker the mother-of-three, along with Peter, are preparing to take the music scene by storm.
Now, the focus is firmly on the future, her music being her ‘baby,’ trusting someone else with it was difficult to do for musician, but a decision she has made for the benefit of her music career.
“After a few chats, I’m so proud to announce that I’m placing my faith in Peter.
“He has decided he would love to look after me and now things are taking off more than ever; I’m so pleased to have him on board the Marx team!
“I can’t always keep up with everything myself and he’s a breath of fresh air!
“I was scared to hand my baby (music) over to someone else but every time I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone, something great has happened and that’s what we are doing together.
“I know Peter will do his best for me and I trust him with all that I am, we are doing, with my music.”
Where that starts is anybody’s guess but Peter does have things up his sleeve and, as Marie continues her ‘This Is The Micro Tour’ tour, upcoming dates in Stockton, Hartlepool, Gateshead and a finale in sunny Scarborough still to come, they are now ‘winging it’ alongside Marie’s ever faithful #tribe.
