Screen Shot 2016-05-24 at 16.05.18RECREATIONAL riders and competitive cyclists are being encouraged to choose their challenge at this year’s Stockton Sportive on Saturday 25 June.

The increasingly popular event has four different types of route involving varying distances, with one on offer for every level of ability.

The Sportive, now in its sixth year, indulges participants with an array of stunning scenic views as they cycle across Stockton Borough and out into the wonderful North Yorkshire Moors before returning to Stockton Riverside alongside the River Tees.

Advance booking is advised due to the popularity of the four distance types on offer, which are:

  • Spin – 36.7 miles – perfect for first time Sportive riders, recreational riders and people returning to cycling.
  • Sport – 50 miles – ideal for the progressing Sportive rider and cyclists with some experience.
  • Challenge – 72 miles – ride deep into the North Yorkshire Moors on this stunning ride with tough climbs and exhilarating descents.
  • Le Tour De Moor – 105.8 miles – the toughest and most rewarding Sportive ride, set on mile after mile of challenging but glorious roads.

Councillor Norma Wilburn, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: “The Sportive is another string to Stockton’s bow in what is set to be a truly sensational summer of sport in the Borough.

“The Sportive events complement the Time Trial and Road Race events taking place in June as part of the British Cycling National Road Race Championships in Stockton, without forgetting there’s also competitive youth racing and a family fun day all to be enjoyed as well.

“This summer of cycling is set to highlight Stockton as a first class sporting Borough and one that thrives on offering premier events of international appeal. The Sportive is a fantastic way for keen riders to get on their bikes, challenge themselves and get directly involved in what is set to be the best Stockton Cycling Festival to date.”

Entrants have until midnight on Wednesday 15 June to register their place for this year’s event. Prices range from £15 to £25 depending on the distance chosen.
