Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Your best pictures of Whitley Bay go on display

north_tyneside_councilA gallery of fantastic photos taken in Whitley Bay will go on display this week, as part of a competition to capture the town’s unique charms on camera.

Earlier this year, North Tyneside Council launched a photography contest which challenged residents and visitors to share their own pictures of Whitley Bay – and win the chance to have them publicly displayed.

The competition aimed to highlight the very best bits of the popular coastal town, and showcase all the wonderful things Whitley Bay has to offer.

The contest was extremely popular, attracting over 100 photo entries, and now 80 of the images have gone on display at the Whitley Bay Customer First Centre until October 23.

Ten of the best and most inspiring pictures have also been chosen by a panel of local judges to be displayed at the iconic Spanish City Dome site, as well other areas along the coast.

The exhibition at the Whitley Bay Customer First Centre will be officially opened on Thursday 1 October by Councillor Eddie Darke, cabinet member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism. Councillor Darke will also present prizes to the competition winners, including Active North Tyneside goodies and vouchers for Whitley Bay’s Jam Jar Cinema.

Councillor Darke said: “Whitley Bay is already one of the most photographed areas of the North East and people love taking snaps of St Mary’s Island, the Spanish City Dome, and the ever-changing fantastic coastal views. This contest has offered us a wonderful opportunity to showcase all of the great things we love about Whitley Bay and we’ve been delighted by the interest we’ve had the quality of the entries. People are clearly very proud of Whitley Bay and all of the wonderful things it has to offer.”
