Ryedale District Council is seeking views on the assessment we have undertaken for identifying potential sites for development. The Council has adopted the Local Plan Strategy in 2013, and this sets out the general approach for where and how much development can take place in the District, particularly for housing and employment land, but we need to choose sites to meet the Local Plan Strategy’s development requirements.
Over 600 sites have been submitted by landowners and their agents for consideration by the Council, so we have far more sites than we need to meet our outstanding housing and employment land requirements.
The Council has assessed the sites through what it has called a “Site Selection Methodology”, considering various factors including impacts on the natural environment including impacts on flood risk, physical matters such as the means of site access, and impact on the form and character of settlements, and ensuring that their development, there is an appropriate level of services and facilities. The sites are also considered alongside general planning policy considerations, and how much development has already recently taken place or received planning permission.
No decisions have been made at this stage. The Council has identified preferred individual sites in the villages of Amotherby, Rillington, Sheriff Hutton and Slingsby. This is alongside a range of options for sites around the towns of Kirkbymoorside, Pickering, Malton and Norton. After we have undertaken this consultation the Council will consider the comments and information received, to inform the production of a full draft of the Local Plan Sites Document in spring 2016.
