SUNDERLAND retailers and traders are being given the opportunity to develop the city’s markets as part of a major plan to help boost the local economy.
Sunderland’s Business Improvement District (BID) has organised a workshop on March 5, where retailers and traders can hear from experts on what makes a great market.
The workshop, taking place at The Point, Park Lane will include a talk from the chair of North East England Farmers’ Market Nik Best, as well as Richard Beddard and Victoria Welsh from Stockton Borough Council, which has won a Love Your Market award.
Representatives from the city’s existing markets and a number of retailers have been invited to take part in the session, which will also include an update from Sunderland City Council on the regeneration plans for the city centre.
“Markets continue to grow in popularity and we are lucky enough to have two permanent ones in existence in Sunderland,” said Ken Dunbar, Chief Executive of the Sunderland BID.
“This event is to look at how we can build on our existing markets and explore ways of growing the offering so that it will help boost the retail success of the city centre.”
Attendees will be given the chance to talk about their views on what makes a good market along with any issues or opportunities they have identified.
The workshop will run from 1pm until 5pm and will include a chance for attendees to give feedback on the event.
The market development workshop is part of a wider programme of events, initiatives and activities organised by the Sunderland BID to attract more people to the city.
