A regional dance school has joined forces with Marvel Universe LIVE! to create an innovative dance showcase, inspired by the all-action live stunt show arriving at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena this November.

Tyneside based Swan Kenney Theatreworks held open auditions earlier in the year that resulted in the formation of a 20 strong troupe of dancers who have taken part in free weekly workshops, supported by Marvel Universe LIVE!

Swan Kenney Theatreworks co-owner Susan Kenney said:

“We had a great response to our open audition, with dancers travelling from throughout the region to take part. We have girls from numerous regional dance schools who have all worked together to engage in this innovative routine, and we’re planning to show it at selected events so we can share  the result of the girls’ hard work and creativity.”

Co-owner Emily Swan added:

“Susan and I are huge Marvel fans, so when the opportunity arose to join forces with Marvel Universe LIVE! we jumped at the chance. We’ve worked with the girls to create a powerful, active routine, inspired by the strong female stars of Marvel Universe LIVE! We’ve taken our inspiration from dominant female role models like Black Cat, Black Widow, Gamora, Wasp and Nebula, and constructed an exciting performance that oozes empowerment and positivity.

“Costume wise, we’ve gone for a minimalist monochrome visual that reflects the stark and dramatic ethos of the dance.  The girls have worked incredibly hard and we are delighted at what they have achieved as a group.”

Group member Paige Teasdale (14) said:

“Having the opportunity to be involved in the creation of this dance has been a great opportunity; I’ve learned so many new lifts and tricks, and been able to take part in the workshops where we have all shared our ideas and inspirations to make something really special.”

Libby Rose Sweeney (11) added:

“It’s been so exciting to be part of this ensemble, it’s been the first occasion I’ve been able to actually do a lift, which is really exciting. We’re all really looking forward to seeing the professionals in action when we go to the opening night Marvel Universe LIVE in November. We all really appreciate how much effort and expertise goes into making a show of this size and stature really work.”

Steven Armstrong, European North vice-president for Feld Entertainment, producers of Marvel Universe LIVE! said:

“We’ve been blown away by the commitment of the girls taking part in the Swan Kenney Theatreworks workshops, and the results of their hard work and dedication is plain for all to see. It’s a delight to be able to support such a dedicated troupe of dancers who have all pushed themselves to the limit to create a great showcase dance. It’s our pleasure to invite the group to see the amazing stunt women and men who bring Marvel Universe LIVE! to life in the live arena show that is wowing audiences throughout the UK.”
