New Deputy Head for Durham School

One of the region’s leading independent schools Durham School, has appointed a new Deputy Head.

Andrew Pearson has taken on the senior role which will support headmaster Kieran McLaughlin at the co-educational day and boarding school.

Andrew joins the school from Colfe’s School, in South East London, where he was Director of Studies having previously been Head of the Mathematics Department. Before that he taught at RGS High Wycombe and St Dunstan’s College, Catford.

Andrew will start this term in his new role at the school where he will also be teaching Mathematics to students.

Andrew read Mathematics at Durham University and is delighted to be back in the city and to be joining Durham School at this exciting time. He said, “Starting a new year in a school which has just achieved the best GCSE and A level results in history is very exciting. I was lucky enough to be here on results day and it was lovely to see all the pupils receive their results and I look forward to teaching some of them in Year 12.

“I am keen to start working with the outstanding teachers who helped achieve those results and to support Kieran in taking the academic agenda forward in a year that has already seen outstanding achievements.

“I respect the traditions of the school, their ethos and their values and I look forward to getting to know all the pupils, encouraging them in their sports and ventures and to see them flourish through their years at Durham school.”

Andrew is moving back to the North East with his wife Jenny and his two sons, William and Douglas. William will be starting at Bow, the preparatory school for Durham School in September.
