STOCKTON-on-Tees’ popular greyhounds sculpture will soon have a new home in Stockton Town Centre.
A prominent site on Church Road has been chosen for the much loved artwork after residents expressed a desire to see the greyhounds return to the Town Centre.
In January Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council launched a public consultation to ask residents where they thought the ‘Racing Ahead’ greyhounds artwork should be installed. A total of 75 suggestions for new locations across the Borough were received and although local parks were a popular response the majority of residents said they wanted to see the artwork back in Stockton Town Centre.
Councillor Norma Wilburn, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: “Thank you to all those who got in touch to let us know where they thought ‘Racing Ahead’ should be installed.
“The new location, where Municipal Buildings meets Stockton Central Library, provides an appealing site overlooked by the children’s library. The greyhounds’ new home sits alongside a popular route with shoppers, office workers and library users and has sufficient space for the young and old to interact with the sculpture. This site will allow residents and visitors to enjoy the greyhounds for years to come.”
It is anticipated ‘Racing Ahead’ will be installed in its new home by the end of September 2016.
