FOR decades local markets were the original meeting place for villagers and this weekend is no different.
Northern Dales Farmers’ Market is inviting people to take part in The Great Get Together in memory of MP Jo Cox by visiting the farmers’ market at Wynyard Hall on Sunday from 9am to 2pm.
There will be a selection of local food producers selling everything you need for a picnic or a Sunday family tea, or even an impromptu street party.
However organisers say people don’t need to buy anything to take part, visitors are welcome to wander, enjoy being at the market, and maybe sit for a while at the picnic tables and meet people they’ve never met before.
The farmers’ market at Wynyard is one of more than 100,000 events expected to take place across the UK this weekend as part of The Great Get Together – a weekend of celebrations inspired by Mrs Cox’s maiden parliamentary speech where she said: “We have far more in common than that which divides us.”

The initiative invites people to get together with their neighbours to share food and celebrate all that we hold in common. It could be a street party or a shared barbecue, picnic or bake off. What matters is that people have fun and the event helps bring communities closer to together.
