There are a multitude of must-do tasks involved with having a baby, some admittedly more enjoyable than others.
Planning the layout and the core design of your new baby’s nursery is certainly an exciting task to begin – and if you are looking for inspiration and ideas, then look no further.
1. Choose a Colour Theme
Whether you subscribe to the notion that certain colours are associated with certain genders or not, either way, you need to start your nursery design plans by choosing the right colour scheme to suit the room and your other ideas.
You could choose a basic painted wall in one colour, with a contrasting bolder colour for the furniture; or a more eclectic theme for the walls and neutral, softer and more tranquil colours for changing tables.
Make sure that whichever colour theme you choose is one that will suit your baby as they grow into a toddler and beyond, so you avoid having to redecorate every couple of years.
2. Prioritize Safety Above Anything Else
Naturally, your new baby will be the most important aspect of your life and as such, you need to be safe in the knowledge that your nursery is safe for the little one at all times – and without exception.
Search for playmats online to find an impressive and practical range of changing and playmats to stock in your new nursery, which will keep your baby contained and protected – and can also aid their learning too.
3. Make Smart Storage Choices
These days, you can pick up a selection of inexpensive, yet stylish, storage solutions to keep the nappies, clothes, baby grows and everything else which comes along with a new-born.
You could even label the drawers ahead of time (with different aged clothes separated into different drawers) and purchase a selection of different changing bins for different items. Take advantage of storage space on the walls too, with open shelving with toys and blankets, keeping them simultaneously off the floor and easy to access.
4. Invest in a Luxury Nursery Chair
Next, as you will soon be spending most of your time in the nursery watching over your sleeping baby (providing you are lucky enough to have a baby who sleeps through the night), you also need a comfortable place to sit.
Nursing and feeding your new bundle of joy is also much easier when you are relaxed and settled and for extra style points, you could also purchase a smaller, matching chair for your child to keep in the nursery for when they are big enough to use it.
5. Don’t Neglect the Ceiling
For a stunning finished aesthetic, you can make an impressive change to the ambience of the room for a small amount of money by adding a fresh coat of paint to the ceiling, or even better, textured wallpaper.
Not only will this make your nursery stand out from the average photo shoot of a ‘show home’ nursery you usually see in magazines, but it will also entertain your baby when they are lying down and staring upwards.
