The chance to be part of a pop-up choir at this year’s Festival of Thrift is being offered to enthusiastic singers of all ages.
This year’s Festival at Kirkleatham in Redcar on 17 and 18 September is to feature a choir of 170 to celebrate 170 years of steel-making on Teesside.
Led by north-east artists, the ‘a capella’ ensemble Mouthful (http://gospelchoir.org.uk/
Mouthful is a 4-person group, Katherine Zeserson Dave Camlin, Sharon Durant and Bex Mather, who perform original music using only the human voice as an expertly-played and finely-tuned instrument. They create and perform a diverse range of vocal material ranging from Georgian to gospel, folk to funk, including jazz and country along the way.
They aim to create a Festival choir that brings together people of all ages. Taking the themes of forging, smelting and tempering as the starting point they will make new songs, re-imagine old songs and perform together.
The process is open to all and no experience is required, only enthusiasm.
All are welcome to rehearsals being held at Kirkleatham on 3 and 10 September from 10am – 5pm and13, 14 and 16 September from 7pm – 9.30pm.
