Housing employees donate presents to spread Christmas cheer

Employees at a local housing group gave more than 80 Christmas presents to people in need in memory of a late colleague.

Kind-hearted colleagues at County Durham Housing Group and its landlords – Dale & Valley Homes, Durham City Homes and East Durham Homes – donated 83 gifts to St Andrew’s Church, Crook.

Each year the church arranges for social services to deliver the presents to individuals and families in need living locally.

The housing group’s employees collected the gifts in memory of a former colleague, building surveyor Richard Grantham, who died last year.

Richard’s former manager, Mark Percival, said: “We have done this for the past three years and wanted it to continue in Richard’s memory, as it meant so much to him and he meant so much to our team.

“He was a big part of the local church community and he took pride in collecting the presents at Christmas.

“There were a wide variety of different gifts donated and they will help to make Christmas a bit brighter for people who wouldn’t normally have much to celebrate at this time of year.”
