Stokesley Town Centre has gone global!
Hambleton District Council has worked in conjunction with Stokesley Town Council and businesses in the town to provide free wi-fi in the town centre.
Surveys show that shoppers and visitors increasingly want to connect to the internet and it can influence the public’s choice of shopping destination.
Stokesley is the final Hambleton market town to become connected. Free wi-fi is also available in Bedale, Easingwold, Northallerton and Thirsk.
“Visitors to any town now expect to be able to log on to free Wi-Fi when they arrive,” said Councillor Peter Wilkinson, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Economic Development.
“Having wi-fi to complement our attractive market towns, coupled with quality independent retailers can only help our town centres’ fortunes. Creating a town centre wi-fi network will be a significant draw for visitors to Stokesley.”
The district council provided £3,500 to install the equipment for the network with Stokesley Town Council who is managing the project, funding the additional broadband line in the Town Hall required for the transmitter.
