Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Screen Shot 2015-06-24 at 09.23.38A FLOCK of giant seagulls is preparing to descend on Darlington this summer – ruffling feathers and providing plenty of family fun.

For the third year running, business improvement company Distinct Darlington is turning the town’s Market Square into Darlington by the Sea, from Friday 24 July to Thursday 6 August.

And along with a sandy ‘beach,’ complete with deckchairs, and traditional seaside entertainment, four giant ‘birds’ will join the crowds, putting visitors in a flap with their avian antics and lifelike behaviour.

The Seagulls street theatre performance, on Saturday 1 August, will be just part of a packed programme of creative workshops, live entertainment and big film screenings planned for this year’s Darlington by the Sea spectacular.

Other highlights will include opportunities for youngsters to help shipwrecked Pearl the Pirate find her missing treasure.

On 28 July and 4 August, children will be invited to help Pearl create a giant map and shell and pebble compasses for the hunt and join her in singing sea shanties and playing games.

There will also be Punch and Judy shows on 27 and 30 Julyand 3 and 6 August and the chance to take part in arts and crafts activities, with Scrap Studio, on Wednesdays 29 July and 5 August.

Throughout the event, fairground stalls and ice cream vans will be making regular appearances at the Market Square and the outdoor cinema is also set to return on Fridays 24 and 31 July, with three big screen favourites for the whole family.
