Newcastle International Airport has extended its highly successful partnership with two of the region’s top charities, which has already raised over £50,000.

Foundation of Light and Newcastle United Foundation jointly became the airport’s adopted charity for 2015 and 2016, and this partnership has now been extended for a further year.

Both staff and customers at Newcastle International Airport have been involved with fundraising over the last two years.

Airport staff have taken part in sponsored cycle rides and runs, as well as fundraising at airport events.

Customers of the airport have made generous donations to the charities during bucket collections and via the foreign currency globes in the departure lounge and luggage collection point.

Nick Jones, Interim Chief Executive of Newcastle International Airport, said: “We’re delighted to extend this highly successful partnership and lend our support to two fantastic charities.

“The people of the North East have demonstrated their passion for football and helping those in need throughout the partnership and we hope to utilise this to help even more people over the coming year.”

Lesley Spuhler, Chief Executive of Foundation of Light, said: “The partnership with Newcastle International Airport has helped us raise awareness of our work in the region as well as raise much vital funds to help those in need locally.

“As well as our immense gratitude to the Airport we would like to extend our thanks to each and every one of their customers who has supported this partnership and made a donation.”

“Newcastle International Airport has shown itself to be a real pioneer in its field throughout the partnership and we look forward to working with them over the next year.”

Kate Bradley, Head of Newcastle United Foundation, said: “Our relationship with Newcastle International Airport has been invaluable in terms of raising awareness of the work we do, and crucially, raising funds.

“We thank the Airport and their staff for their ongoing support as well as the North East public for their generous donations.

”We are delighted that this partnership has been extended for another 12 months giving us the opportunity to work alongside our colleagues at the Foundation of Light, so together we can use football to change lives.”

The partnership is the first time ever the Foundations have come together in partnership as an adopted charity partner.

Financially independent of both football clubs, the Foundation of Light and Newcastle United Foundation rely upon fundraising to continue their life-changing work across the region.
