BBC Breakfast presenter Steph McGovern will host the annual showcase of television and media production from the North East and Borders.
Television executives and celebrities will be out in force on the red carpet for the Royal Television Society awards being staged in the New Year on Tyneside.
Stars and production teams from shows including Vera, Wolfblood and Inspector George Gently will join games designers, documentary producers, animators and staff from regional broadcasters BBC North East, Made in Tyne and Wear and ITV Tyne Tees and Border.
More than 400 guests will gather at the Newcastle Gateshead Hilton on the evening of Saturday February 27th 2016 for the event.
Judging panels from across the UK have been scrutinizing entries – including six student categories. Other awards will be presented for Drama, Performance, Factual, Journalism and Technical Excellence.
The ceremony will also unveil the winner of this year’s prestigious Centre Award for services to television and production.
Chair of the North East and the Border Centre, Graeme Thompson, who is also Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Design and Media, at the University of Sunderland, said: “This is the biggest night of the year for our region’s television and media professionals.
“It has been a significant year for network television drama production. We’ve seen three major CBBC series produced in the region – The Dumping Ground, Wolfblood and World’s End. Add in ITV’s Vera, BBC One’s Inspector George Gently and the forthcoming fantasy adventure Beowulf, and you can begin to see how important drama has become to the region’s production economy.”
The Royal Television Society is Britain’s leading forum for television and related media. The North East and the Border Centre organizes a series of events across the year to promote TV and digital media production in the region.
