BEYOND HOUSING CELEBRATES ITS APPRENTICES WITH COMMUNITY CHALLENGES

Beyond Housing is harnessing the diverse skills of its apprentices with a series of challenges, designed to enhance local communities in Redcar & Cleveland.

Launching during National Apprenticeship Week (3 – 7 February 2020) the projects will engage the talents of the 28 apprentices, together with their ability to plan and execute the ventures as a team, giving them the valuable skills and behaviors to help them complete their apprenticeship qualification and showcase their talents.

Each challenge has been designed to make life better for neighbourhoods or for colleagues. Each team has a designated ‘secret weapon’ within the company who works the closest to the area their given task is in, and can offer any tips, guidance and support they need as they undertake their challenges. The different groups will present the outcome of their work to senior managers in a Dragons’ Den style pitch for funds to help make their projects happen.

The challenges are:

  • To devise an engagement activity to build relationships with the local community, where a large-scale regeneration project is underway
  • To develop a project to revamp the communal patio area and front gardens at an older people’s development in Marske, being mindful of anti-social behavior issues
  • To formulate a community-led event in partnership with a local school to breathe life back into a small, but much used walkway with an environmentally-centred project
  • To devise a company-wide project to raise awareness of men’s mental health issues and deliver internally to colleagues across the company.

Emma Tooth, Apprentice & Volunteer Team Leader said: “At Beyond Housing we take great pride in delivering valuable apprenticeships that offer a fantastic start to a career, shaping our next generation of colleagues.

“Our apprentices are valued, and empowered members of our team and I know that they will embrace their challenges, learn new skills and the projects will have lasting benefits for our communities.”
