Borough’s Apprentice of the Year set to be Crowned

logo-landscapeSTOCKTON-ON-TEES’ apprentice of the year will be crowned during a week of special events to mark National Apprenticeship Week.

From 14 to 18 March Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Learning and Skills Service will be hosting the events to promote apprenticeships and celebrate the achievements of the Borough’s apprentices.

Councillor Bob Cook, Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, said: “Apprenticeships have so much to offer and are about up-skilling our young people and supporting the local economy.  During National Apprenticeship Week we want to remind employers that opening their doors to apprentices can give their business a boost and for young people an apprenticeship can be the first step onto a career ladder and a long road to success.”

On Monday 14 March employers from local businesses and school pupils will come together at Preston Park Museum. Throughout the morning there will be interactive activities designed to give guests a flavour of different apprenticeships plus a series of guest speakers who will explain how apprenticeships can benefit both the employer and the learner.

Later that day apprentices who have apprenticeships through the Council’s Learning and Skills Service will be attending an evening celebration event at ARC where the apprentice of the year will be crowned.  Former Middlesbrough Football Club players Andy Collett and Neil Maddison will join the Leader of the Council, Councillor Bob Cook to present certificates to four outstanding apprentices and to the apprentice of the year.

Tuesday 15 March will also see teams of apprentices from across the five Tees Valley local authorities go head to head in a day of fun but challenging sporting activities at Air Trail Tees Barrage.
