British Basketball League: Nix seal Ochereobia’s returns to the BBL

Cheshire Phoenix have announced the signing of British Center Michael Ochereobia for the 2019/20 BBL season.

The 6’8 big man comes to the Nix after spending a season in Italy playing for Urbania in Serie C. Michael has also had multiple spells in France, his latest was playing for Bordeaux where he was pivotal in helping the club gain promotion into NM1.

Ochereobia also played for the Surrey Scorchers during the 2016-17 season, where in 21 minutes he averaged 8 points and 6 rebounds per game. He is very much looking forward to playing in the UK: “It feels good to be playing in the BBL again and I love what Cheshire has done over the last couple of years in finding their identity. I hope to come in and add to their strengths.

“I’ve heard really good things about the Cheshire fans and can’t wait for the season to start so I get to play in front of the Nix nation!.”

Coach Ben Thomas added: “I’m really happy that we have been able to secure Mike for next season, he’s been somebody that we have tried to sign for the last couple of years. I’ve known Mike for a long time and he’s a great guy. He will fit in well with the rest of the players that we are bringing back and only add to the great team chemistry.

“The Nix fans can expect to see a true Center on the floor. Defensively he’s a great shot blocker and shot changer. He will bring a real physicality to the team and will really help our shooters create space.”
