British Basketball League: Seven-foot Theo Turner adds height to Raiders roster

Seven-foot Theo Turner will join up with Plymouth Raiders for the 2019-20 BBL season. The British centre is Coach James’ third signing of the summer joining Josh Wilcher and Rashad Hassan in next season’s roster.

Turner played for German side Recklinghausen last season and racked up 12.3 points, 9.2 rebounds and over 2 assists per game, shooting 54.1% from the field.

The 25 year old attended Barry University in Miami before graduating in 2018 and being given the opportunity to start his professional career in Germany.

Theo attended a recent invitational court session at Plymouth Marjon University and impressed both Head Coach Paul James and Lead assistant Coach Danny Magee, leading towards his inclusion in the 2019-20 roster.

Ahead of joining up with Coach James and the team Theo said, “I can’t wait to be a part of Plymouth Raiders and compete in the BBL.

“I followed them closely last season whilst I was in Germany completing my season, I saw how well they played and how successful they were in comparison to previous seasons.

“I think Coach James came in and did a great job with the team and I’m excited about being a part of another successful season for the club.

“I can’t wait to get back competing at a high level, day in day out and helping the team win games in any way I can.”

Head Coach Paul James added, “I’m happy that we have been able to pen 7’0” Theo Turner for the Plymouth Raiders 2019-20 season.

“With the retirement of captain Zak Wells we have been looking hard to find the right replacement and in Theo we feel that we have.

“Theo is really talented young British player who’s yet to reach his full playing potential and we aim to bring the best out in him.

“He is a good athlete who runs the floor really well for a player of his size.”
