Celebrate St George’s Day with an English Whisky: Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky

What better way to celebrate St George’s Day, on the 23rd April, than by creating cocktails at home using a single malt whisky from the heart of England – Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky.

Oliver Morris, Cotswolds Distillery Mixologist, was inspired by St George and the legend of his trusted spear, his Ascalon, which he used to sleigh the dragon and save the captured princess, to create this delicious Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky Ascalon Cocktail which is refreshingly fruity and subtly sweet:

Ingredients: 30ml Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky, 15ml Apricot Liqueur, 15ml Sweet Vermouth, 30ml Orange Juice, 3 x dashes Orange Bitters, Orange Peel Garnish.

Method: Add all the ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake and fine strain into a martini glass. Garnish with orange peel.

A twist on a classic Manhattan is The English Outlaw, which has a robust malty base creating a complex and moreish cocktail:

Ingredients: 60ml Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky, 30ml Vermouth, 1 x bar spoon of marmalade, 1 x dash of Aromatic Bitters.

Method: Dissolve the marmalade in Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky, add Vermouth and dash of Aromatic Bitters, stir down with ice and fine strain into a martini glass. Garnish with cherries, Maraschino if you have them in the cupboard!

An easy alternative St George’s Day cocktail is the Cotswolds Whisky Highball:

Ingredients: 50ml Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky and Soda Water

Method: Fill a highball glass with ice and add Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky. Top with soda water and garnish with whatever inspires you from your kitchen or garden a slice of lemon or orange or a sprig of rosemary.

Benjamin Disraeli once said: “The English nation is never so great as in adversity” a quote which rings true for England’s dragon-slaying soldier. You too can honour the bravery of this patriotic saint by celebrating with an English Whisky – Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky.

Launched in October 2017, Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky is the first whisky ever distilled in the Cotswolds. The distillery uses 100% locally grown, floor-malted barley and matures the whisky in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels and reconditioned red wine casks. The whisky is rich, fruity and sippable with notes of honey, Seville orange marmalade and dark red fruits. Each bottle lists the barley variety, harvest year and local Cotswolds farm it was grown on.

Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky RRP: from £44.95 for a 70cl bottle. ABV:  46%
