Construction has started on a new purpose-built care home at DurhamGate, which will create 58 jobs in County Durham.

Having secured planning permission from Durham County Council, LNT Care Developments will be working towards an opening of the home by Summer 2023.

Located in a prominent position on the main boulevard entrance to DurhamGate, the 66-bed development will provide general residential as well as dementia care.

The home will feature en-suite wet room accommodation with extensive communal and recreational space for residents, including large, landscaped gardens.

Having successfully built over 150 Homes in the last ten years, DurhamGate forms part of their continued growth strategy bringing much needed residential and dementia facilities to communities across the UK.

Working in partnership with DurhamGate developer, Arlington Real Estate, LNT is also contributing to the expansion of the landmark mixed-use community, which is located five miles south of Durham City.

Already incorporating more than 300 homes alongside the Fox Cub pub & restaurant, HQ offices for housing provider LIVIN, national training provider Learning Curve and Breedon Group. Arlington Real Estate is developing the next stage of its masterplan for DurhamGate, which has triggered significant regeneration not only on the site, but also in the surrounding area.

Dean Cook, Managing Director of Arlington Real Estate, said: “LNT’s new care home will further enhance the vibrant community we are growing at DurhamGate and we are delighted that construction is underway after planning permission was secured earlier in the year.

“LNT is the UK’s leading care home developer and selecting DurhamGate for its latest scheme is a real endorsement for our community and we’re very proud to be working alongside its team to deliver a this much needed asset within the area’’.

Keeley Sharp from LNT Care Developments, said: “This is an important milestone in our strategy to continue to address the shortfall in quality care provision across the UK, and in particular our re-establishment within the North East Region.

“Arlington Real Estate has been exceptionally supportive and will continue to collaborate with our team as we work towards completing the building and welcoming our first residents before the end of 2023.”
