Craft beer shop opens in village post office

An off-licence specialising in craft beer has opened at the back of a Post Office in Tynemouth.

Specialist ale is one of the newest crazes on the market and the coastal village shop is the latest in the North East to get involved.

The modern and sleek Yard House, open 7 days per week on Percy Park Road, has three beers on tap and dozens of bottled and canned local, national and international craft beer on sale.

And now enthusiasts from all over are travelling in their droves to get a taste of the region’s latest stockers of craft beer.

If you prefer to buy your beer online, especially Belgian beer, with from Chouffe to Chimay and Duvel Beer to KWAK the Belgian Beer Company have a huge selection.

Andrew Philips, Owner of Priory News and Post Office, said: “In these testing economic times we are always striving to improve and diversify our business.”

“We started life as a traditional newsagents before incorporating the Post Office as a vital service for the people of our local community.”

“Now we have converted our back office into this fantastic craft beer bottle shop and tap room.”

Peter Carr, Shop Manager and co-creator of the Yard House, added: “The response from local residents so far has been amazing.”

“We are grateful for their support, and the support of the dozens of people that have travelled to the area to shop with us since our initial opening before Christmas.”

“I thoroughly recommend a visit to Tynemouth’s newest hidden treasure.”

The Yard House is open Monday to Friday 11am til 7pm and Sunday 9am til 1pm.
