The Cockerton branch of Darlington Building Society has pledged its support to a local cycling club as they prepare themselves for a cross country trek.
Members of Hummersknott Cycling Club, which was formed by students from Hummersknott Academy, will be riding from Lands’ End to John O’ Groats in late July.
The club was created in 2006, with the aim of getting young people to cycle the famous cross-country route. The club reached its goal in 2009, following years of fundraising and training. Following the success of its first trip, the club has now made it an annual event thanks to the support of local organisations.
Ahead of its latest adventure, Hummersknott Cycling Club has received financial backing from Darlington Building Society. The Society has donated £250 to the club; money which will help cover the costs of the marathon journey. Hummersknott’s cycling jerseys will display the Darlington Building Society logo during the epic trip.
Maxine Wylie, Customer Service Consultant, at Darlington Building Society said: “Darlington Building Society is proud to support the Hummersknott Cycling Club for its trip to Lands’ End from John O’ Groats. The club has done a fantastic job in getting young people interested in cycling and keeping active and everyone at the building society is committed to helping this club continue its great work.
“The donation to Hummersknott Cycling Club shows Darlington Building Society’s commitment to supporting the local community. The money given to the club is part of the building society’s pledge to look after local interests which is key to everything that it does.”
Gary Morley of Hummersknott Cycling Club said: “Everyone at Hummersknott Cycling Club is delighted with the very generous donation we have received from Darlington Building Society. Organising a John O’ Groats to Lands’ End cycle ride costs the club a lot of money and we rely on the generosity of local businesses and organisations to support us.
“Hummersknott Cycling Club would like to thank Darlington Building Society for this kind contribution to the club’s funds. We will proudly display the Society’s logo on the cyclists’ jerseys as we cycle the length of Great Britain.”
