Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

north_tyneside_councilNorth Tyneside Council is urging residents concerned about their weight not to miss out on a free 12-week programme starting in January to help with their ‘weight worries’.

‘Weight Worries’ is a free programme first introduced last year which has seen great successes – helping over 250 residents to lose weight through pairing a beginner’s physical activity programme with lifestyle advice.

The next group is set to get underway in January, running from The Parks Sports Centre in North Shields.

Residents interested in taking part are being urged to act fast to register, as places are limited.

During the 12 weeks, participants will have the full support of the Weight Worries team to offer encouragement, advice and motivational tips along the way to start being active and keep being active!

Two of the programme’s recent success stories are Nicola and Colin Calvert.  Nicola said:  “Colin and I used to sit on an evening getting fatter and more depressed. We knew we had to do something, but didn’t know where to start.

“Then I saw an advert for ‘Weight Worries’ and decided to try to get on the programme.

“Since then my husband has lost 1½ stone and I’ve lost about 1 stone of body fat overall. Weight Worries has been a Godsend and given us a new lease of life.

“We exercise regularly now and feel bad if we miss a session!”

Weight Worries is for adults who currently do no exercise and have a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 25 and 35. The team can quickly work out BMI readings using weight and height measurements over the phone and advise whether or not you could benefit from being more active.

All classes are exclusive to Weight Worries participants and are lower intensity and shorter duration than mainstream exercise classes.

The team utilises the latest ‘In Body’ technology to accurately assess participants’ health and body measurements before they begin and throughout the 12 weeks.  North Tyneside Council gyms are the only venues in the borough to use an ‘In Body’ machine to assess body strength, muscle mass and body fat in a programme in this way.

Based on the ‘InBody’ results, the Weight Worries team devises the perfect mix of activities to achieve results which can be sustained after the programme ends.
