Global Entrepreneurship Week is the worlds biggest entrepreneurship event, involving up to ten million participants and supporters such as Richard Branson. The aim is to introduce young people to the benefits that entrepreneurship can bring for themselves and their communities.
The girls of Durham High are certainly leading the way. Teams from the school were among the winners of the Future Business Magnates competition and recently won the area finals for Young Enterprise as well as Best Product in the regional finals. They are currently competing in the Coca Cola Real Business Challenge. Some girls manage to run profitable businesses in their spare time, making good use of the opportunities offered by the internet.
Mrs. Lynne Renwick, Headmistress, praised the enterprising character of her students, “It is fantastic that our girls manage to achieve all this while still keeping up excellent academic results. There is no doubt that the skills and qualities they are developing will prepare them well for their futures. In a changing world, we aim to encourage young women who are ready to meet that change and to help lead it.”
